How to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy

We’re often asked how to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy, but we believe they are beautiful, and we encourage mothers to embrace them. They are a sign and memory of your resilience and your journey to motherhood.
However, if stretch marks are impacting your confidence and self-esteem, in this guide we discuss how to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. Read more to find out.

How can I limit stretch marks during pregnancy?

The key to limiting stretch marks during pregnancy is hydration and keeping your skin’s elasticity. We recommend using Body Treatment Oils, like our Tonic Body Treatment Oil, twice a day during your pregnancy. Lightly massage the body oil on damp skin after bathing, focusing on the areas most prone to stretch marks such as the stomach, thighs, breasts and hips.

For optimal results, we recommend washing your skin with cool water after application. Follow up by using body exfoliators once a week to keep skin smooth and to help absorption of the body oil.

How to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy

It’s important to note that sometimes stretch marks can be an inevitable part of pregnancy, and we encourage mothers to embrace this beautiful side effect. To prevent them and minimise the appearance of stretch marks, we recommend regular use of a targeted treatment like our Body Partner.

Body Partner is a lightweight, fast-absorbing formula aimed at preventing and minimising the appearance of stretch marks. Tested and recommended by pregnant women, this nourishing cream also soothes and relieves the feeling of tightness in the skin (a known side effect of pregnancy) whilst promoting firmness and elasticity.

Safe exfoliation during pregnancy

Exfoliating the face and body during pregnancy helps expectant mothers minimise skin issues and keep their glow.

Can I use a body scrub while pregnant?

Yes! We recommend prenatal exfoliation to promote cell renewal and keep your skin supple. If you do use a body scrub while pregnant, we also strongly suggest following with a body moisturiser or body treatment oil to maintain your skin’s elasticity and avoid any uncomfortable tight feeling. Gentle exfoliation can also help stretch mark treatments to work more effectively, like our Body Partner, if you choose to use them.

What is the best body scrub for pregnancy?

The best body scrub to use whilst pregnant is one that is moisturising, not too harsh on the skin and without too many active ingredients.
We recommend our Exfoliating Body Scrub, a moisturising and refreshing treatment containing natural bamboo powders, a hint of ginger and nourishing shea butter, to keep skin firm and toned.

Tired legs & pregnancy guide

Suffering from tired legs during pregnancy? You are not alone, as this is a common symptom.

In this guide, we’ll cover our best self-care tips for when your legs feel heavy and tired in pregnancy.

How to treat tired legs during pregnancy?

We recommend the following tips to those suffering from tired legs in pregnancy:

  • When seated or lying down, prop your legs up on a cushion to improve blood circulation
  • Opt for showers over baths
  • Finish your shower with a blast of cool water from your ankles to hips
  • To combat water retention, massage a detoxifying body oil (like our Contour Treatment Oil) from your feet and work your way up to your thighs
  • Keep our Energising Emulsion on-hand for an immediate cooling and soothing treatment that can be applied even over stockings
  • Store your Contour Treatment Oil and Energising Emulsion in the fridge for an increased cooling sensation

Tired legs in pregnancy can be experienced due to the changes in your body and hormones. Poor blood circulation can often lead to a feeling of heaviness or swelling in the legs. That’s why we recommend specialist treatments like our Contour Treatment Oil and Energising Emulsion for tired legs and feet that help to eliminate toxins.

How to avoid pigmentation during pregnancy

Pigmentation, melasma, dry skin and dark circles are some of the facial side effects that come with pregnancy. Though completely natural, we understand how they can affect an expecting mother’s confidence.

In this skin care guide, we will uncover:

  • How to treat dry skin during pregnancy
  • How to prevent melasma or pigmentation during pregnancy
  • How to remove dark circles under your eyes when pregnant

How to treat dry skin on your face during pregnancy

When pregnant, we recommend switching your skin care routine to more hydrating and nourishing products such as our Hydra-Essentiel range. This range contains organic Leaf of Life extract which triggers the skin’s natural hydration systems, making your skin more soft and supple in the long-term.

The ideal skin care routine to treat dry skin during pregnancy is as follows:

A change in hormone production can severely affect the hydration levels of a pregnant woman's skin, so it is so important to treat this in order to minimise discomfort during this time.

How prevent melasma during pregnancy

Even if you live somewhere that is not sunny, it is absolutely essential to wear a very high SPF50+ facial sun protection when pregnant to prevent melasma or hyperpigmentation. We recommend using our UV Plus [5P] Anti-Pollution SPF 50, available in translucent, beige and rose tints to suit all skin types, as the final step in your morning routine everyday to maintain an even complexion.

We also recommend avoiding UV exposure between 12pm and 4pm when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. If you are outside during this time, opt for a wide-brim hat or staying in the shade.

How to reduce dark circles during pregnancy

In order to minimise dark circles under your eyes during pregnancy and in the future when looking after your little one, we recommend incorporating a brightening eye care treatment into your AM and PM skin care routine.

For a morning treatment that feels as good as it looks, opt for our Total Eye Revive that visibly reduces dark circles and puffiness whilst smoothing fine lines. It comes with a cryo-metallic tip applicator that helps to de-puff the under eyes and provides a relaxing, cooling sensation. Our Total Eye Revive contains luminosity pigments that provide an immediate brightening effect, making it perfect for no make-up days.

In the evening, we recommend our Total Eye Lift. Containing horse chestnut and albizia extract, it helps to brighten dark circles whilst also smoothing out fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. Harungana extract helps to lift the eye area, helping you look more defined and awake. Total Eye Lift is also suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Guide to the best postpartum skin care products

Mothers need extra TLC after giving birth and this includes the best postpartum skin care products to help them feel their very best. Postpartum mothers can often experience stretch marks, loose skin around the abdomen and face swelling. These are all side effects that we know well and we have formulated treatments to help new mothers regain their confidence.

In this guide, we’ll cover:

  • How to get rid of stretch marks postpartum
  • How to tone postpartum belly skin
  • How to treat postpartum face swelling

How to get rid of stretch marks postpartum

To minimise stretch marks postpartum, we recommend using a specialist targeted treatment like our Body Partner. For best results, use it twice daily and apply to the thighs, hips, stomach and breasts in circular motions.

Our lightweight, fast-absorbing body treatment helps to reduce stretch marks in length, width, depth and colour to help new mothers feel their most confident. Tested and recommended by pregnant women and new mothers alike, our nourishing Body Partner soothes and relieves tight skin whilst helping to increase its elasticity.
As we have mentioned previously in our pregnancy stretch mark guide, it’s important to note that stretch marks can be an inevitable part of many women’s journeys into motherhood. We encourage all mothers to embrace this as a mark of their resilience and strength, but also recognise the impact on confidence that they can have. That’s why we have specially formulated products to help, but it is ultimately every woman’s choice as to whether she wants to use them or not.

How to tone postpartum belly skin

To tone postpartum belly skin, we recommend exfoliating, toning and massaging the area on a weekly basis.

Our body skin care routine to tone postpartum belly skin:

  • Gently exfoliate your abdomen area once or twice a week with a natural body scrub like our Exfoliating Body Scrub and rinse
  • After rinsing, massage a body oil like our Tonic Treatment Oil to improve the skin’s elasticity or Contour Treatment Oil to eliminate water retention on slightly damp skin to lock in moisture
  • Let it absorb into skin for as long as possible, 10 minutes minimum
  • Rinse the oil off with cool water and apply Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert to the area
  • To help tone other stubborn areas, apply a firming body cream like our Body Shaping Cream on a daily basis

We recommend following this routine as regularly as possible whilst maintaining a healthy, nutritious diet, keeping hydrated and gentle exercise (strictly under medical instruction and guidance) to tone postpartum belly skin.

How to treat postpartum face swelling

To tone and reduce postpartum face swelling, we recommend incorporating skin care products specially formulated to define your facial contours into your routine like our V Shaping range that sculpts, slims and depuffs the face.

Our sculpting skin care routine to combat postpartum face swelling is as follows:

  • After cleansing in the AM and PM, massage a sculpting serum like our V Shaping Facial Lift Serum in firm strokes and ensure to use enough product to not pull the skin
  • Follow up with the V Shaping Facial Lift Tightening & Anti-Puffiness Eye Concentrate and gently glide on skin to allow the metal tip applicator to encourage drainage around the eye area
  • Twice weekly, apply a thick layer of our V Facial Intensive Wrap to the lower part of your face and neck to tighten the cheeks and for a more defined jawline. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with cold water

Reshaping breasts after breastfeeding

A new mother’s breasts after breastfeeding can sometimes sag or change in size. It is a completely normal side effect to childbirth, however we understand how it can affect a mother’s confidence.

In this guide, we’ll uncover how to preserve and reshape postpartum breasts for mothers.

How to reshape breasts after breastfeeding

To lift and reshape postpartum breasts, we recommend using a specialist body treatment formulated to lift and tighten your breasts on a daily basis. Look for products that firm and lift the area, like our two expert products.

In the morning, we recommend applying our Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel from the base of your breasts to your chin. This refreshing gel provides an immediate lift and visibly improves the shape of the bust area whilst smoothing the supportive ligaments of the bust to reshape the area. In the evening, try our Bust Beauty Firming Lotion which helps improve the firmness of postpartum breasts. Both products contain collagen-boosting Vu Sua that acts as an “invisible bra” to help your postpartum breasts hold a more defined shape over time.
